New patent accelerates creation of cross-platform test automation scripts

London, UK – May 12, 2016 – TestPlant, the maker of the eggPlant range of software quality tools, today announced that the United States Patent Office (“USPTO”) has issued another patent relating to its innovative technology for software test automation. U.S. Patent No. 9317403 accelerates the creation of cross-platform test automation scripts, improving productivity for testing teams in digital enterprises.

When testers create scripts, they must name the UI objects they are testing, such as text fields, buttons, and menu items. This activity is time-consuming, prone to cross-platform errors, and can create conflicts when different testers on the same team name objects differently. The new patent introduces intelligent techniques, such as optical character recognition (OCR), to name the selected objects. This makes script creation faster and more robust, and helps to facilitate collaboration.

This new innovation enhances TestPlant’s leadership in test automation. TestPlant’s unique image based methodology (patented in 2011) verifies software from a user’s perspective, making test automation simpler, faster and more robust, across different platforms and browsers.

“Our success is built on innovation and I’m delighted to say that securing this patent is further evidence of continued product development and invention at TestPlant,” said Antony Edwards, TestPlant CTO. “Everything we do is designed to make the testing process faster and easier, and this is already helping our customers across the world to increase productivity, shorten time-to-market and improve software quality.”

TestPlant’s eggPlant product range provides a suite of easy-to-use software test automation tools that helps companies deliver high quality enterprise and mobile applications quickly and consistently, in Agile and DevOps environments. eggPlant’s patented, image-based approach to functional testing allows its customers to test their applications non-intrusively and from a true user perspective, improving user experience (UX). Its powerful performance testing and network emulation products allow developers to easily test applications under a range of conditions.
