New version of test tool helps users achieve higher automation levels, improving software quality and productivity

London, UK – February 04, 2016 – TestPlant, the maker of the eggPlant range of software quality tools, today announced the launch of eggPlant Functional v16, the latest version of the company’s flagship test automation tool.

Ideally suited to DevOps and Agile development environments, and for companies undertaking digital transformation projects, eggPlant Functional helps companies test their applications better, faster, and with less effort by automating the execution of functional testing. eggPlant Functional uses a patented, image-based approach to testing, which allows it to interact with any device (including mobile, tablet, desktop, server, and the Internet of Things) in the same way a user does – by looking at the screen.

Key new features in eggPlant Functional v16 include:

  • In-product tutorials and achievements. Interactive tutorials guide beginners through the interface and help experienced users discover relevant advanced functionality.
  • Image maintenance. Easily ensure reference images are robust and ready for cross-platform execution with new capabilities such as trim, ignore color, and ignore background.
  • Image management. Easily manage large test suites.
  • OCR doctor. Automatic guidance on the best OCR settings to use in each situation.

eggPlant is completely technology agnostic and uses sophisticated image and text search algorithms to locate objects on the screen. eggPlant’s user-centric test automation approach also makes it incredibly intuitive to write tests, so anyone can be productive with eggPlant within a few hours.

“A recent study conducted by PAC Consultants found that only 8% of companies have test automation for more than 50% of their digital processes; and 67% have less than 30%,” said Antony Edwards, CTO, TestPlant. “So this release is all about helping users achieve higher levels of test automation by allowing them to quickly getting more out of the extensive rich features available in eggPlant Functional.”
