TestPlant named in 2012 Red Herring Top 100 for Europe

TestPlant, the developer of robotic GUI automation and software test tool product eggPlant, has been listed as a Winner in the Red Herring Top 100 awards for Europe. Red Herring’s Top 100 award rewards leading European private companies by celebrating the innovation and technologies of the most exciting start ups across their respective industries. The Red Herring Top 100 Europe list has rapidly become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. The formal awards followed the early successes of Red Herring editors to recognise that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube and eBay, would change the way we all live and work.

TestPlant’s eggPlant is a powerful test tool that creates a visual depiction of GUIs and screens, enabling software test engineers to automate testing through ‘search and compare’. This technique is entirely non-invasive, making it a unique and invaluable feature for testers in industries such as defence, security, media and medical devices. More than 500 organisations and businesses worldwide – including some of the world’s largest software vendors and businesses – already trust and rely on eggPlant for its ability to enhance the ease and efficiency of automation testing. “Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across Europe to the Top 100 Winners. We believe TestPlant embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. TestPlant should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was the strongest it has ever been.” Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated all companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy and market penetration. This assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track record and standing of start-ups relative to their peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the ‘buzz’ and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in Europe.

The award follows TestPlant’s other recent success in being named in the UK’s ‘National Challenge: Exporting for Growth’, for which the company received a grant for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) support, as well as advice to help the continued growth of its export business. TestPlant has also been recognised by both the British Venture Capital Association and the London Export Awards.

Founded in 2008, TestPlant has seen significant year-on-year success. In the last year alone it achieved a 104% growth rate. The company is headquartered in London but meets global demands, with 85% of its sales to export markets, including America, Canada, China and India. The company can lay claim to a number of market-firsts, including becoming the only company in its market niche with a patented technology – secured in 2011 from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its eggPlant intelligent robotic software testing tool. George Mackintosh, chief executive and president of TestPlant, said: “To be acknowledged alongside some of the best and brightest companies currently driving European and global innovation, is proof of the relevance, technical leadership and business vision that we have brought to this market with eggPlant. The Red Herring awards are world-renowned for authority, prestige and recognition, so we are very proud to be named as a Winner in the 2012 Red Herring Top 100 for Europe.”
